Metadata and your Photos

I found this article enlightening on the subject of your edits to your photos you make in Lightroom. I normally import my pictures and convert them to DNG as I go to save my keywords and edits. After reading this, I found that there were a couple of settings in Lightroom I did NOT have turned on.
O’Reilly — Saving Metadata to the Original File
In order to properly open or view your Lightroom adjusted image files in Adobe Camera Raw or Adobe Bridge—or another application that reads Lightroom-generated processing instructions—you’ll need to make sure these develop settings travel with the file. In this section, I’ll show you how to do so.

Raw vw JPEG

Actually Michael Mistretta has a good write up on the pros and cons of Raw v. JPEG and shows some examples of what can be done with Raw and the limitations of each.
RAW vs JPEG - Michael Mistretta
Dan McCullum just got his first DSLR (congrats!) and DM’d me on twitter asking for my opinion on whether to shoot in RAW or JPEG. If you are completely photo illiterate, I suggest you stop reading this, get a large mug of your favourite drink and start here. Most amateur photographers have probably heard these terms thrown around before, but don’t know which is better for them.

Of all the photography podcasts out there, there are two that I would like to recommend.
One is This Week in Photography Scott Bourne, Alex Lindsay, and a rotating cast of characters who talk about high end gear and general photography news and some tips. Always informative and entertaining…all at once.
The other is Tips from the Top Floor with Christ Marquardt. Chris has a lot of insight on digital photography and it is always easy to learn something from him. He also does travel and holds photography workshops which when he podcasts some of those are always fun to listen to and makes me wish I could attend one of those myself.
Do you have a Photography podcast recommendation? I am always on the look for new ones…leave a comment below!
